Guidebook: Lullingstone Roman Villa

Lullingstone Roman Villa is an outstanding example of a Roman villa. Nestled in the Darent Valley in Kent, it was clearly the home of a prosperous and well-educated family, and lay at the heart of a large agricultural estate. Dating from the 1st century AD and occupied for over 250 years, it is interesting not only as a fascinating survival from the Romano-British period, but also as the site of a very early Christian chapel, built by the villa's owner towards the end of the 4th century.
