Guidebook: Jewel Tower
Product Code: 07054
The Jewel Tower, situated opposite the houses of Parliament, was once part of the medieval Palace of Westminster and its story is closely connected with that of British government. Built in 1365 as a personal treasure-house for Edward III, it was then used by other monarchs for this purpose before being converted, in 1621, to house the records of Parliament. In 1869 the Tower was again transformed to become the official Weights and Measures office.
