Guidebook: Dartmouth Castle

Standing guard over the Dart estuary entrance, the castle was built in the late Middle Ages, when rich local merchants felt the need to protect themselves from attack. The castle would later see action during the English Civil War and was on alert during the ensuing wars against the Dutch.
