Haughmond Abbey, Lilleshall Abbey & Moreton Corbet Castle

The two Shropshire abbeys of Haughmond and Lilleshall were both communities of Augustinian canons founded in the 12th century. Both are typical of the middle rank of English monasteries and display the remains of fine medieval buildings, including the church at Lilleshall and the abbot's hall and lodging at Haughmond. Nearby Moreton Corbet Castle consists of the ruins of a small castle and the evocative shell of an uncompleted Elizabethan mansion. This guidebook provides visitors with a tour of all three sites and a short history.
