Send someone a little bit of history with these exquisite postcards that pay homage to the celebrated 18th-century landscape gardener Capability Brown. Supplied as a set of 6 different and unique designs, they are the perfect way to convey that special message. They also make a lovely display framed and mounted on a wall, either individually or together.
The postcards have been produced to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the birth of Capability Brown in 1716. They are exclusive to English Heritage, who is proud to be one of the partners involved in the Capability Brown Festival 2016. The images on the postcards are reproductions of details of an original illustration produced by the Age of Reason studio in Brighton. Rendered by hand in watercolour and ink, the illustration is a wonderful tribute to Capability Brown’s work. It includes images of Audley End House and Roche Abbey, both English Heritage properties with grounds landscaped by Brown. Other images show men using a wheeled contraption to erect a tree, reflecting the designer's fascination with the 18th-century desire to instantly transform a landscape; and one of Capability Brown’s favourite features, a ha-ha, used to make the transition between garden and landscape look completely seamless.
