Overview

Wear this striking pendant depicting the double-headed Janus as a beautiful ancient symbol of change.

Janus was the Roman god of beginnings and endings. Featuring one head looking forward to the new year, and another looking back on the old, he was often worshipped at the start of important events to bring luck.

The pendant is cast from a padlock dating from the 6th-7th century AD. It was found in a ditch along with examples of Anglo Saxon pottery at the Bishop's Court Rectangle in Dorchester-on-Thames, Oxfordshire. Discovered in the 1950s, the original is now housed at the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford.

The pendant makes a touching wedding gift or keepsake gift for a significant moment.
