Prudhoe was built by Robert de Umfraville of Normandy in the 11th century and later passed to the powerful Percy family, Earls of Northumberland, who still own it. It survived two sieges by the Scots in the 1170s. The guidebook includes a tour of the castle and explores the history of the site, with contemporary accounts of the sieges and a section on the Regency house built within the medieval castle walls. Illustrations include maps, plans, new photographs of the site and historical images.
